essay
Emil Nolde refused to perfect artistic techniques - this was also the case when he began to familiarize himself with watercolor painting. He is looking for a way of working that includes chance as an artistic means and thus creates space for the immediate in the painting process. In his watercolors, Nolde is increasingly inspired by his environment and captures it with spontaneous brushstrokes. He outlines the motifs like a fleeting note. You will then receive your more precise definition with the free paint application. The result is a quick snapshot, the expressiveness of which remains tied to the representation of the object or person.
